Shipping Information

How orders are packed and dispatched, why some materials cannot travel by air, and what to do if a parcel arrives damaged.

Last updated August 2026

Processing & dispatch

Orders are picked and decanted to order rather than pulled from pre-filled stock, which is what keeps materials fresh but does mean same-day dispatch is not always possible. Most orders leave within one to two business days. Larger orders, bulk decants and custom dilutions take longer, and we will tell you if yours will.

You will receive tracking when the parcel is handed to the carrier. Delivery estimates are the carrier's, not ours, and we cannot control delays in transit or customs.

How we pack

Aromatic materials are packed for transit, not for display. Bottles are sealed, bagged individually against leakage, and packed with absorbent material so that a failure in one bottle does not reach the rest of the order. Glass is boxed with sufficient void fill to survive normal parcel handling.

Materials that are solid or semi-solid at room temperature — some absolutes, resinoids and crystalline chemicals — may arrive set, cloudy, or clinging to the bottle wall. This is normal and reverses with gentle warming. It is not damage.

Dangerous goods

Many aromatic materials and most solvents are regulated for transport as flammable liquids. This is the single biggest constraint on how we can get an order to you, and it is set by transport regulation rather than by us.

What it means in practice:

  • Some items cannot travel by air at all, which rules out express services and most international routes for those materials.
  • Some destinations are unavailable for particular items, including certain remote domestic addresses served by air.
  • Orders may be split across shipments so that regulated and unregulated items travel by appropriate routes.
  • A hazardous goods surcharge may apply, reflecting what the carrier charges us for compliant carriage.

The determining figure is usually flash point, which is published in Section 9 of a material's Safety Data Sheet — see our SDS library. Section 14 of the same document states whether the material is regulated in transport and under which UN number.

If we cannot lawfully ship something to your address, we will tell you and refund that item rather than leaving the order in limbo.

Domestic shipping

Orders ship from the United States. Ground service is the default for anything regulated as a flammable liquid, because it is frequently the only compliant option. Unregulated items — equipment, packaging, evaluation supplies — can usually move by faster services.

Alaska, Hawaii and other addresses served primarily by air may be restricted for regulated materials.

International shipping

We ship internationally where the materials and the destination allow it. Two things are worth knowing before you order.

You are the importer of record. Duties, import taxes and customs charges are yours, and they are assessed by your country rather than collected by us at checkout. So is responsibility for whether the goods may lawfully enter your country — restrictions on aromatic materials vary considerably, and we cannot advise on the law in every territory.

Air restrictions bite hardest here. Because most international parcels travel by air, the materials we cannot send by air are generally the ones we cannot send abroad. If your order contains such an item we will contact you rather than cancelling silently.

Refused or abandoned shipments are refunded less shipping and any charges we incur.

Damage, leakage & shortage

Inspect your parcel when it arrives. If anything is damaged, leaking or missing, tell us within 7 days of delivery and include photographs of the outer box, the packing and the affected bottles. That evidence is what lets us resolve it with the carrier as well as with you.

Do not handle a leaking parcel without gloves and ventilation. Concentrated aromatic materials are skin sensitisers and some are flammable; the SDS for the material tells you how to deal with a spill safely.

Our returns terms, including why opened aromatic materials cannot be returned, are set out in our terms and conditions.

Questions

If you are unsure whether we can ship a particular material to you, ask before you order — it is much easier to answer in advance than to unpick afterwards.
